Who we are
This privacy policy governs your use of the LowSalt4Life software application (“Application”) on a mobile device and web. LowSalt4Life is an educational app for patients with hypertension. It is designed to help patients reduce their sodium intake. Based on the evidence, food substitution in restaurants and grocery stores can reduce sodium intake. Researchers at the University of Michigan designed the app.
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
Data collected include first name, address, email address, weight, and blood pressure. These data are kept private and confidential and will be used to provide individualized feedback that will enable the user to track their blood pressure over time.
User Provided Information
The Application obtains the information you provide when you download and register the Application. Registration with us is mandatory in order to be able to use the basic features of the Application. When you register with us and use the Application, you generally provide the name you would prefer to use in the app, password, home address, and email address. We may also use the information you provided us to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information. The Application uses the camera function to scan food barcodes and provide customized recommendations for food items. The Application does not store any data from the camera.
Automatically Collected Information
The Application may collect certain information automatically, including the information about the way you use the Application. The Application uses NumberEight, which uses app-aware processes to provide a customized experience. This includes phone sensor data such as location services, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light, screen brightness, and reachable WiFi. None of the phone sensor data is stored by the Application. This data is vital to the core Application functions. These core functions include identifying nearby restaurants and grocery stores. Your identity is not available to Number Eight.
Opt-out of all information collection by uninstalling the Application
You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at LowSalt4Life [at] med.umich.edu and we will respond in a reasonable time.
